About Gurdwara Bal Leela Sahib – Nankana Sahib, Pakistan
Gurdwara Bal Leela Sahib, Nankana Sahib
Gurdwara Bal Leela Sahib, also known as Gurdwara Bal Lilah Sahib, is a historic Sikh shrine in Nankana Sahib, Punjab, Pakistan, associated with the childhood of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the First Sikh Guru and founder of the Sikh faith.
The Gurdwara is situated approximately 400 yards from Gurdwara Janam Asthan, the revered birthplace of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Its name, Bal Leela, refers to the childhood activities and experiences associated with the young Guru. According to the historical account preserved by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Guru Nanak Dev Ji spent time at this site during his childhood, where he played with his companions and shared spiritual awareness and remembrance of the Divine.
The site is also associated with the historic Nanaksar pond, which the SGPC records as having been built by Rai Bular, the ruler of Talwandi and an important figure in the early life of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
Today, Gurdwara Bal Leela Sahib forms part of the historic Nankana Sahib Sikh pilgrimage circuit, alongside Gurdwara Janam Asthan, Gurdwara Patti Sahib, Gurdwara Kiara Sahib and other sacred sites connected with the early life of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
For Sikh yatrees travelling to Pakistan, a visit to Bal Leela Sahib offers an opportunity to explore the spiritual and historical landscape surrounding Guru Nanak Dev Ji's childhood and the development of Nankana Sahib as a major Sikh heritage destination.
